The Gambill Family

Derry was born in Oklahoma City in 1982. He was blessed to grow up in a Christian home and accepted Christ as his Savior on July 11, 1993. In middle school, he began to feel the tug of God calling him to ministry, and by his freshman year of high school, Derry knew God was leading him there. At a Christ in Youth conference in 1997, he went forward and dedicated his life to the ministry.
Over the next few years, that vision began to narrow after going on a few short-term mission trips to Missouri, Mexico, and the Philippines. It was while in Manila, Philippines, the summer of his senior year, that Derry understood God was calling him to the mission field. In 2001, the Lord provided a way for him to attend Dallas Christian College, where he majored in Biblical Studies and Cross-Cultural Missions.
In 2004 as a part of his degree program, Derry interned in Chiang Mai, Thailand, under North Burma Christian Mission (NBCM) and David Morse. By the end of the internship, God had given him a vision to return to Thailand and serve with NBCM.
After graduating in 2005, marrying Angela in 2006 and waiting on the Lord’s timing, Derry and his family returned to Chiang Mai in September 2008.

Angela was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma, in 1982. Like Derry, she grew up in a strong Christian home. In 1986, her family moved to Bryan, Texas, where her father began and is still serving as pastor at Central Christian Church. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1992, and was baptized by her father.
Being raised in a minister’s home, Angela was introduced to missionaries time after time when they stayed with her family during furloughs. After one of these visits, her mom recalled when a young Angela asked, “Mom, what would you do if I became a missionary?” From that time on it was always in the back of her mom’s head, until her junior year of college when Angela came home talking about “this guy” she liked who wanted to become a missionary to Thailand.
In 2006, Angela graduated with a B.S. in Biblical Studies and Music Education. After seeking the Lord’s direction, Derry and she agreed that it was important for her to gain some teaching experience before going overseas. This allowed her to get licensed and improve her abilities as a teacher, which she might be able to one day in Thailand. She taught elementary music for two years at Legacy Christian Academy in Frisco, Texas, and in 2014, after a six-year hiatus, Angela is again teaching elementary music part-time at the kids' international school on a volunteer basis. In 2016, Angela took on the part-time position as Children's Director at Chiang Mai Community Church.
