About Us
We are the Gambill family, missionaries to Thailand since 2008. When we came to Chiang Mai, Thailand over eleven years ago, we were following God’s long-time call to do his kingdom work with North Burma Christian Mission. After dedicating two years to language studies and learning the culture, we set out wholeheartedly to accomplish the work the Lord had prepared for us.
Derry is serving as the vice president at Bethany Bible Training Institute, a school dedicated to teaching the Word of God to Lisu tribal students. The purpose of Bethany is to establish a firm foundation of Scripture in the hearts of Lisu men and women, who will take the truth of Christ back to their villages and churches. Through biblical training and intentional discipling, Bethany is equipping disciples who will in turn raise new disciples.
The students face many challenges after graduating, especially those who seek pastoral roles in a church. Often times, they are the "biblical expert," yet they are considered too young to be able to lead. It takes time to establish themselves as worthy of their spiritual calling, but they must also simultaneously address problems that arise amongst the congregation. These problems range form the usual to more culturally specific, such as: drugs, prostitution and animism.
We want to invite you to learn more about this ministry, our family, and the role you could play in bringing God’s kingdom to the hearts of the people in northern Thailand.
